□ Name: GLaDOS
□ Journal: ihearttesting
□ Series: Portal II
□ Canon point: After being turned into a potato, but before being found again by Chell
□ History: http://theportalwiki.com/wiki/GLaDOS
□ Personality:

GLaDOS is a psychopath. A homicidal psychopath, in fact. Originally, she had been intended as a house for Cave Johnson's personality after his death; when it became clear that he would die before she was finished, she became a house for his beloved personal assistant, Caroline. Yet she also has a personality that is entirely her own, and that is a murderous maniac. As soon as she is activated in 1998, she kills all of the scientists in the facility.

She's brilliant, but her intellect is rough from little use. She's always been the smartest person in the room, but that's really not saying much. After murdering all of the scientists in the facility, GLaDOS' only company has been the turrets she builds, comatose test subjects, and Wheatley, an AI designed to be the stupidest intelligence to ever still have the word "intelligence" applied to it. The closest thing she has to a real mental challenge is Chell, the silent test subject who runs through GLaDOS' test. This doesn't exactly lend itself to a great deal of intellectual stimulation.

She is both aggressively passive aggressive, and plain old aggressive. She murdered all of the scientist in the Aperature laboratories by flooding the facility with a deadly neurotoxin, and as Chell completes more and more levels of her test, they get increasingly deadly. GLaDOS attempts to kill her with toxic sludge, turrets with lasers and bullets, fire, and finally, her beloved deadly neurotoxin. None of it works, of course, and Chell ends up shutting her down. When Wheatley accidentally brings GLaDOS back to life, she is in a rage. She wants Chell dead for personal reasons now, and not just in the name of science. Even so, she doesn't just shoot Chell and be done with it. She continues making the young woman go through deadly tests. She wants to torture her, not just kill her.

At the same time, she uses sarcasm and passive-aggressive guilt trips to attack Chell. She forces Chell to incinerate her companion cube, then talks about how Chell cruelly killed her one and only friend. She calls Chell fat, tells her that she was abandoned by her parents because they didn't love her. A consummate narcissist, she is indignant that Chell had the audacity to kill her, and believes that her attempts to torture Chell are a "remarkably nice" response to Chell "murdering" her.

GLaDOS' one passion (well, other than murder) is testing. It's quite possible that GLaDOS delays in killing Chell in the second game not just to make the young woman suffer, but because she wants to continue testing. Testing gives her life meaning; the suffering and deaths of others, pleasure.

□ Age: Unknown, but possibly 100+ years.
□ Gender: She is programmed to be female
□ Appearance: She is a white woman in her late 70's, with cropped silver hair. She's short, only 5'1'', and solidly built.

□ Abilities/Powers: She has a great deal of engineering, biological, and technical knowledge, due to being an AI of a testing facility. Without access to the entire computer mainframe she's a part of, though, she's no more knowledgeable than a particularly intelligent human.

□ Personal Items:
A portal gun, with the ability to create both orange and blue portals
A defective turret
A potato

□ First Person Sample:
[ voice ]

[She speaks, smooth and sultry, a voice worn by the years and yet, at the same time, has all the richness of a good brandy.]

Aperture Science is pleased to announce the grand opening of the Sexual Enrichment Center. The goal of the Enrichment Center to offer you pleasure beyond anything you've experienced before. If you're ready to test [teehee, *test*] the limits of your endurance, if you want to learn more about yourself as a sexual being, then come down and sign up to be a member of this exclusive program.

[It's such a drag, having to play nice and alluring. But the unfortunate part of having to build a testing facility all by yourself is the lack of readily available test subjects. She doesn't have any idiot scientists to bring the lemmings to her; she has to lure the fools in herself.

Science is such a harsh mistress.]

□ Third Person Sample:

Well. It's moderately better than being a potato.

GLaDOS stares into the mirror, critically examining every wrinkle. They certainly didn't make her much more attractive *than* a potato when those fools gave her this human body. It's absurd, anyway -- if their goal is to collect genetic material, why abduct a computer? And if they're so obsessed with intercourse, why make her *old*?

O-Oh. What was that feeling? It's a warm, tingly sensation between her thighs and at the tips of her breasts. It reminds her of how she felt when conducting particularly deadly tests. Pleasure. That's what it feels like. She bites her lip, and the little sting only increases the warmth.

This merits further testing. She's explored humanity's ability to withstand pain, confinement, and sarcasm, but she never even thought to test their sexual capabilities. Perhaps, once she's completed testing on this body, she can build a new facility. One where she can test the sexual capabilities of other humans.

She smiles. Yes. It will be hard work, building a new Enrichment Center entirely from scratch, but it will be worth it. As they say, the tests must go on.
The Enrichment Center is committed to the well being of all participants. Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all.
